A Sunday Ride to Allen Davis Beach (83 Images)

Another epic Sunday ride to a new location that I’ve never heard of before. For those of you who don’t know, Allen Davis Beach is a hidden beach that’s located on the other side of the Makapu’u Lighthouse hill. Since the highway goes through the other side of the mountain, Allen Davis is easily overlooked. On the way to the beach from Manoa, we ending up riding on the last stretch of the freeway in Kahala since the streets were coned off for the Honolulu Marathon going on during the morning. It was pretty awesome being able to ride next to the marathon on Kalanianiole Highway with no cars around; the entire eastbound side of the highway was closed off and all of the cars were routed onto the other side of the highway to avoid the marathon, so we were able to take up two whole lanes and cheer on the runners along the route. We got hit by a couple passing showers which really sucked, but it was sunny for the rest of the day.

When we got to Allen Davis, via the longest offroad route possible, the payoff was well worth it. The beach was one of the nicest beaches I’ve seen; definitely one of Hawaii’s hidden treasures. There’s a large rock structure referred to as “Pele’s chair” that overlooks the coast, which makes the location very unique looking. After an hour or two, we rode to the Hawaii Kai Costco for some cheap grindz and then headed to Ala Moana Beach Park to meet up with Christian’s BMX friends. It was a pretty long ride today, but well worth the distance. Another awesome Sunday to add to the books.

Memorable Moments:
-Hitting up the freeway heading to Hawaii Kai
-Sau ringing his damn bell pretty much the entire time we were next to all the marathon runners
-Christian giving high-fives to the runners
-Drinking a load of free watered-down Gatorade at a water booth at the marathon
-Almost getting my first bee-sting, but was guarded by my thick shirt (the stinger got stuck in my shirt)
-Blasting through the windy roads on the coast after Hanauma Bay heading to Sandys
-Watching John and Nick climb to the top of Pele’s chair
-Photoshooting a photoshoot session
-Mashing down Heartbreak Hill, only to be disappointed at the bottom since the speed limit meter was not functioning
-Discovering the onion dispenser at Costco
-Watching Sau demolish an onion pizza with cheese
-Mashing back to Kahala with the very informative older lady that could keep a hell of a pace on her mountain bike
-Witnessing John O’s maneuver tactics with a parked car
-Enjoying my first A&W creme soda in probably 10-years
-Being informed that my lo pro had fell over and got scraped/gashed by the rock wall at Ala Moana Beach Park…
