A Saturday Ride in Makaha (54 photos)

went on this weekend as Sau and Nimz had a weekend getaway at one of Nimz’ parent’s rental properties in Makaha. Such a sigh of relief the anticipated storm that hit the island on Thursday was a fluke. The weather was awesome, leading into a very chill ride to Yokohama Bay to sit back and relax in the sand with a bunch of friends, eating some awesome limu-onion poke and shoyu-garlic edamame from Tamura’s and chugging some “drinks” in plastic cups. I haven’t been to Makaha/Yokohama Bay since the Makaha Time Trials that happened at the beginning of this year, a couple months after I started getting addicted to riding. It was great to get back on that side of the island to realize one of Hawaii’s hidden treasures. Hopefully there will be another beach ride in the near future, I like the idea of riding at a cruise pace as a group to a scenic location to relax and talk story. It’s much different from the TNR/ThNR events that go on during the week where everyone’s trying to get to each rest point the fastest.

Memorable moments:
-Thomas’ flat tire, which led to a petting/feeding event with 2 horses.
-The aftereffects of Christian drinking a 4Loko alcoholic-energy drink (e.g. “the birthday feeling”, diving head-on into a rock).
-Casey’s Hawaiian tan
-Realizing that Wild Turkey has a weird aftertaste
-Semi-drunken riding and eating shit on the way back
-Taxiing 4 bikes and 3 passengers in the xB out of Makaha.
